Epilepsy is a neurologic condition affecting over 50 million people worldwide causing recurrent, unprovoked seizures.

Incident epilepsy is common in both the early years of childhood and the late adulthood years, with new cases rising after age 55.

While some causes of epilepsy are known (e.g. brain injury, stroke, genetic predisposition), many cases of epilepsy are unexplained.

Beyond seizures and anti-seizure medication, epilepsy can affect many domains of an individual’s life, including memory, cognition, family planning, mood, education, and employment.

Our research goal is to investigate causes and effects of epilepsy, with the goal of improving lives for people with epilepsy.
